Largely a student-excellence school than management.I was really hyped when I got into UI. It’s "the premier university in Nigeria" so I expected a lot. For Computer Science, the course outline is fine. But the teaching? That’s where it broke for me. Even the theory wasn’t explained well. Most of the lecturers don’t seem to be doing anything in the industry, so lectures just felt dry and hard to connect with. Honestly, I only got good because I had to teach myself and do personal projects outside school. Hostel life was another story. I stayed in Independence Hall and it was rough. The rooms were in bad shape, and the bathrooms were dirty with broken things everywhere. Basic maintenance just isn’t there. The one thing UI has going for it is the students. Everyone is smart and pushing themselves. I feel like most of the "excellence" comes from us, not the school. Also, nobody really talks about these problems because everyone’s scared of the Students' Disciplinary Committee. So yeah, UI has the reputation. But if you’re coming here, be ready to put in the work yourself.
